This amazingly beautiful photos captured by Electro-L are derived from the highest resolution images ever taken of Earth!
Electro-L was launched on January 20, 2011.
It operates in geostationary orbit, a circular orbit 36,000 kilometers above the Earth's equator, following the direction of the Earth's rotation.
This Russian satellite monitors the weather and if a strange weather phenomenon is detected, operators can remotely command the satellite to take images
every 10 minutes.
Electro-L's impressive shots differ from NASA's Earth photos which are often an amalgam of several photos.
The Russian satellite has massive resolution of 121million megapixels and the images are taken in a single snapshot.
