Fantastic Field Of Light Show At Uluru

5 July, 2012

MessageToEagle.com - Bruce Munro has a true passion for light.

"My aim is to express, through the medium of 'light', simple fleeting moments of clarity, experiences of connection with the world," Munro says.

In May, 2013, Bruco Munro will bring his fantastic Field Of Light show to the heart of the Australian red desert.

Entirely powered by solar energy, the dazzling Field of Light will be presented at Ayer's Rock (Uluru).

Uluru also known as Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory, central Australia.

Bruce Munro is an installation artist working in light. The small team of lighting designers working at his studio also create architectural lighting schemes for private residences, hotels, restaurants and other commercial spaces. These schemes often require spectacular feature lights such as contemporary chandeliers, wall lights or sculptures, and these are designed by Bruce Munro himself to complement the scheme.

"The idea for the Field of Light came to me in 1992 during a trip through the Red Centre, which seemed to radiate both energy and ideas along with the heat.

I have wanted to bring the Field of Light back to Uluru, ever since the idea first popped into my head. The scale would be unprecedented.

Imagine it: A quarter of a million stems, blooming with LED light, set in a circular format adjacent to the great Uluru, powered entirely by solar energy.

The inspiration came to me from the land; why it came to me is the mystery.

Field Of Light is a personal symbol for the good things in life.

I'm very thankful for working closely with the Anangu people for whom, this area is of vital importance," Munro says.

Munro's latest project is going to be the largest he has ever undertaken.

The national park at Ayer's Rock (which is also called Uluru) spans 311,000 acres, and Munro and his team will take six weeks to install his largest installation yet.

Field of Light at Uluru will consist of 3,290 kilometers of optical fiber and it will be entirely powered by solar energy. Munro says that his team will take every effort to protect the landscape.

"We're going to be extraordinarily careful, and we're using 500 LED solar-powered illuminators, so that the installation doesn't waste any power," Munro says.

The installation will lend a gentle light to the massive rock formation that will last for about 4 hours from dusk to evening, using up the solar energy stored during the day.

The exhibit is set to open in May 2013 and it will run until the end of October and it should be an unforgettable experience!
