Search giant Google has patented the design of its augmented-reality glasses, known as Project Glass, a
technology invented by the Mountain View-based tech company.
Google has three design patents for, "wearable display devices" with characteristics of the much-talked
about futuristic glasses were submitted last autumn.
Patents for Glass Project,
include functions, such like displaying data in front of the wearer's eyes and playing audio.
The patents show images of different versions of augmented reality glasses, some with lenses and some without.
According to patent, "a wearable marker may take the form of a ring, a bracelet, an artificial fingernail configured to be affixed to a
fingernail, a decal configured to be affixed to a fingernail, or a glove, among other possible wearable items."
Prototypes are being tested by the company, its executives Sergey Brin and Vic Gundotra Sergey Brin themselves.
The development of glasses is conducted in a special research lab, called Google X.
In addition to displaying information about the wearer's surroundings, the glasses can also be used to communicate with others, browsing the
internet and taking pictures
In other words - it's a vision for letting people experience daily life through Internet-tinted glasses.
In April, this year, Google presented details of its research into the glasses along with
>a demo video of a prototype
When it comes to competition, Google has to face Oakley company's , augmented reality technology.
According to Oakley CEO, Colin Baden, the company has "been chasing this beast since 1997," before Google was even incorporated, so the competition with 'Google Glasses' is definitely possible.
A number of companies had attempted to pioneer the concept as well, but did not get very far.
