Lichen Crab Spider With A Human "Face"

7 May, 2012

MessageToEagle.com - A Lichen Crab spider is harmless to humans but its look can be a little frightening.

The spider has a human face on its back!

It is a very rare spider. Since 1890 only 41 one of them have ever been seen in Britain.

The Lichen Crab spider is very small, only 20 p piece, blends into lichen on tree trunks, hence their name and moves fast.

Wareham RSPB nature reserve worker Mark Singleton said: 'This is the first one that has been found in Dorset in 35 years.

But it's not, it's a spider with a slightly amusing abdomen.

'We found it in the electricity box a few feet from our work centre and got quite excited when we realised what it was.'

The spider was discovered at an RSPB reserve in Arne, near Wareham, Dorset.

A spider with human face.
