Mothman Mystery – An Unknown Giant Bird, Interdimensional Being Or Something Else?

Cynthia McKanzie – MessageToEagle.com – Depending on your interest in strange and unexplained sightings of peculiar beings, you may or may not have heard about Mothman.

If you live somewhere around West Virginia, it’s likely you are familiar with Mothman, and it’s possible you even know some people who say they have seen this elusive, flying humanoid creature.

Mothman - Bizarre Flying Creature Sighted In West Virginia – A Visitor From Another Realm?

Mothman terrorized people of West Virginia for many years.

Some years ago, Mothman caused quite a stir and sightings of him reached journalists who wrote plenty about this peculiar creature. In more recent days, there have not been so many reports this bizarre flying creature that terrorized West Virginia. Yet, some still claim he is still around somewhere.

Mothman has become somewhat of a legend these days, and the flying humanoid has even his own annual festival in Point Pleasant where most Mothman sightings took place.

Sightings Of Mothman

Sightings of strange, unknown flying creatures are very old, but Mothman hasn’t been around so long, or so it seems based on the reports.

Mothman gained publicity between 1966 and 1967. It is naturally possible someone spotted this winged creature much earlier, but the first documented sighting of Mothman happened on November 12, 1966, when five men who were digging a grave at a cemetery near Clendenin, West Virginia, claimed to see a man-like figure fly low from the trees over their heads. Just some days later, Roger and Linda Scarberry and Steve and Mary Mallette, a couple from Point Pleasant told the police they had seen a large grey flying humanoid whose eyes “glowed red”.

Suddenly, everyone reported witnessing who Mothman terrorized the people of West Virginia.

Witnesses described Mothman as a “large bird with red eyes”. Some added it had glowing eyes “like bicycle reflectors”.

“Several close encounters claim that the wings of Mothman were featherless. Even odder were the huge, red, glowing eyes on the face. Other eyewitnesses were unable to recall seeing a head at all; they claimed the eyes were actually in the shoulder area where a neck and head should have been.

Other people who encountered this creature reported that it could fly without flapping its wings and could match the speed of a car racing at one hundred miles an hour. The creature never seemed to flap its wings when rising from the ground,” Darrin W. Owens writes in Mysteries of the Supernatural.

Strange Case Of A Woman Who Slipped Into A Parallel Universe That Is Slightly Different From Her ‘Home Universe’

On December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge, which connected Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Gallipolis, Ohio, over the Ohio River collapsed, and 46 people were killed. Mothman was blamed for the catastrophe. In his book, The Mothman Prophecies, author John Keel suggested that certain supernatural events were related to the Mothman sightings and a connection to the collapse of the Silver Bridge.

Keel writes that shortly before the Silver Bridge collapsed a bright light was seen in the sky. “Afterward it became clear that this was a flash caused by snap-ping power cables strung along the bridge. “Still, many residents were convinced the disaster was a bad omen and the incident turned Mothman into a well-known creature. The movie The Mothman Prophecies, starring Richard Gere was based on Kelly’s book

Just like the legendary Snallygaster brought fear and terror to Maryland and Washington, Mothman struck fear into people’s hearts around West Virginia.

Where Did Mothman Come From?

Many researchers have tried to explain the origin and nature of Mothman, but the mystery of the flying humanoid that terrorized West Virginia remains unsolved.

“There are still many who believe that the so-called Moth-man that was encountered by dozens of residents during the 1960s was a bad omen, a shadowy portent of destruction and that its manifestation spelled doom for all who were unfortunate enough to cross its path. Skeptics have since argued that individuals had misidentified a large owl that was lurking in the area and that the rest was merely the product of mass hysteria and overly fanciful imaginations.,” Ken Gerhard writes in his book Encounters with Flying Humanoids.

Many theories have been put forward, ranging from misidentifications of enigmatic, giant birds to inter-dimensional origins.

Could Mothman have been a creature residing in a parallel world invisible to our naked eye? Did Mothman accidentally enter our reality where he got stuck unable to return to his own realm?

The idea that Mothman could have been an interdimensional being may sound far-fetched and ridiculous, but according to the superstring theory, there are 10 dimensions. Nine of these dimensions are of space and one is of time. We, humans, live in a world with three spatial dimensions and the objects we interact with have height, width, and depth. What if other creatures can access higher dimensions that are effectively inaccessible to us humans?

As discussed earlier on MessageToEagle.com in higher dimensions we could see past, present and future events simultaneously, and if we add to this with the possibility that parallel universes may exists, then the nature of reality becomes an even greater mystery.

Mothman may have been a product of mass illusion, an unknown flying creature, a misidentified bird, a hoax, or a visitor from an unknown realm.

When dealing with sightings of famous, bizarre creatures one mustn’t forget that some of their legends can be based on misidentification or an elaborate hoax. For example, the jackalope, a mythical animal that many people claim to have seen in modern times has a historical background that surprises many people. Not everything is always as it seems.
