First Photo Ever Of The Entire North Pole As Seen From Space!

26 June, 2012

MessageToEagle.com - You have never seen the entire North Pole, not until now...

This is a unique photo showing for the first time the entire Artic region.

We have previously only been able to view parts of the North Pole, but in this very special version of the Blue Marble image much more can be seen.

Can you see your country on the image?

Actually, this is not a single photo, as 15 orbits of the Suomi NPP satellite were required satellite to collect enough images to comprise the whole North Pole to the level of detail needed.

The Suomi NPP is considered NASA's next-generation satellite that will eventually take over for the aging Earth Observing System.

Suomi NPP, which is operated in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, orbits Earth 14 times each day.

In this image you can see a number of countries and continents.

The whole of Europe, a part of Northern Africa, the entire Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, and almost all of Asia, plus Greenland and N orth America can be found on this amazing photo!

Fifteen orbits of the recently launched Suomi NPP satellite provided the VIIRS instrument enough time (and longitude) to gather the pixels for this synthesized view of Earth showing the Arctic, Europe, and Asia.

On January 4, 2012, VIIRS instrument also took the beautiful Blue Marble image of the Earth.

The Arctic image was captured from an altitude of 512 miles (824 kilometers) over the North Pole.
