Water covers about 70% of the earth's surface. From oceans, lakes and rivers, to snow packed mountains and valleys, it moves
around the earth in a cycle. During which time, it has not only remained the same amount of water for over two billion years,
it is still the same water.
This means that the water you are drinking now could contain the same molecules that dinosaurs drank.
During a 100 year period, a molecule spends around 98 years in the ocean, 20 months as ice, about two weeks in rivers and lakes,
and less than a week in the atmosphere.
Water is the only natural substance on earth found in three forms: liquid, solid and gas.
Unlike other liquids, water expands when frozen. Yet, while frozen, weighs around 9% less than water which is why ice floats.
Of all the water on our planet, around 97% is salt water and only around 3% is fresh. Two-thirds of that is ice.
Approximately 1.6% of water is locked up in polar ice caps and glaciers, 0.36% in underground aquifers and wells while 0.036% is in lakes and rivers.
The rest is either floating in air as clouds or water vapour, or locked up in plants and animals.
Our bodies are 65%-70% water. Besides that, there is several billion gallons of water sitting on a shelf at any one time.
Without water, life could not exist.
So it is no wonder that through out history it has been revered in every culture in one way or another.
Not just because without it life couldn't exist. But because somehow we all know it has many more mysteries to reveal.
There were ancient cultures that understood water as the blood running through the veins of Mother Earth.
Holy texts speak with great meaning of blessings and baptisms by water.
Artists have been so struck by it's magnificence and beauty, they have reproduced it's many facets onto canvas.
They have photographed it, wrote poems and stories about it. From the elixir of life, to the power of thrashing waves against
rocks during a storm; Water has proved just as beautifully versatile in art as it is in Nature.
This magical natural substance known in science as H20.
In small amounts, water appears colourless, but has in fact, the faintest tint of blue that only becomes apparent in greater quantities.
The chemical and mineral compositions of our blood, and saline fluids have an amazing similarity to seawater, and despite needing fresh water,
we do still need salt. Where fresh water is sparse. Nature has evolved to solve, and penguins are one of the few marine birds which can convert
salt water into freshwater by means of a gland which removes sodium chloride from their bloodstream.
In small amounts we ingest water to live. In vast amounts, it is home to some of Nature's amazing creations, some still waiting to be discovered.
Whether we are reading about water in a science paper, taking in it's chemical properties and it's place in the scheme of things, or gazing in awe at the
sea reaching out across the miles to meet the horizon, none of us could fail to see the wonder and magic of this amazing life giving substance.
When Science, Spirituality and Magic Meet -
Re-Discovering Old Ancient Knowledge
There has been a great deal of hype over the coming new age. Written in sacred texts, carved in stone all over the
world and in the alignment of stars above heralding the dawn of Aquarius, we are reminded to 'awaken' and 'remember'.
Science and spirituality is coming together as the new energies rise our consciousness to a higher level.
But is this new? Or are we seeing our world with new eyes?
Secret Properties Of Water - Still A Mystery!
The true nature of water is unknown. It has a variety of absolutely fascinating properties, we still known very little about.
One of its most unique properties is that water has a memory and its behavior can be
compared to our modern CD storing digital data or magnetic tape!
Dangerous Fast and Furious - Birth Of Africa's New Ocean
The only places where mid-ocean ridges appear above sea level are Ethiopia and Iceland.
Two new studies into the so-called “plumbing systems” that lie under volcanoes could bring scientists closer to
predicting large eruptions and reveal new information about where magma is stored and how it moves through the geological plumbing network.
Exploding Lakes - Horrifying Natural Phenomena
Exploding lakes are a terrible natural phenomena and very serious environmental problem.
These lakes are capable of killing thousands, even millions of people and animals living in the region...
Lake Nyos is an active crater lake that formed by an eruption about 5 centuries ago...
Antarctica's Mysterious Lake Untersee And Its Otherworldly Ecosystem
A research team has now returned to Lake Untersee to begin the first real studies of this incredible environment.
This new high-quality image details the conical stromatolites that have formed on top of a boulder at a depth of about 20 meters, other
cones can be seen populating the sloping bottom...
Who Installed "This Object" At The Bottom Of The Ocean?
Our oceans are full of secrets, and this is one of them.
Deep beneath the waters we find ruins of ancient lost civilizations, wreckage of old ships and planes, and sometimes we come across very strange, unidentified objects.
Looking at this odd construction, one has to ask - Who installed this object at the bottom of the ocean?
An Incredible Geological Phenomena
Earth is an amazing planet and our nature is full of wonders. We have previously written about incredible singing plants.
This time we would like to focus our readers' attention on another amazing geological phenomena, namely so-called growing stones.
It is difficult to image that stones can really grow, but these stones seem to be alive!
Amazing Phenomenon Of Singing Plants
Plants are very much alive. Not only do they dislike human noise but they also posses the capacity to learn and communicate.
Perhaps even more astonishing is that plants can also make music.
Have you ever heard the incredible music of the plants? Plants can actually sing and compose music
and listening to it is truly beautiful and relaxing!
"Something Is Seriously Wrong:
Too Many Strong Earthquakes", Scientist Says
Does a supernatural seismic activity threaten our planet?
Apparently, something unknown has triggered a "terrible and global domino", according to scientists who observe recent earthquake reports.
Seismologists recognize that what happens to the seismic activity goes beyond the level generally considered as normal...
Giant Underwater Canyon Zhemchug
Can Only Be Seen Entirely From Space
We continue to explore amazing places on our beautiful planet.
This time we take a journey deep beneath the oceans. Hidden beneath all that water are some of the biggest natural formations on earth.
Deep underwater we find the longest mountain ranges, the tallest volcanoes and the deepest canyons.
We might think that Grand Canyon is big, but it is nothing compared to Zhemchug that is so huge it can only be seen entirely from space!
