Have We Received An Alien Message From Someone On An Unknown Planet Around A Sun-Like Star In The Sagittarius Constellation?

Cynthia McKanzie – MessageToEagle.com – Space is vast. It’s full of wonders, dangers, stunning alien worlds, and hopefully plenty of incredible extraterrestrial civilizations. Astronomers keep listening hoping to intercept a message from an extraterrestrial civilization. If advanced aliens are out there maybe they will attempt to contact us one day, or has it already happened?

Have we really intercepted an alien message from an unknown extraterrestrial civilization?

On August 15, 1977, Ohio State University’s Big Ear radio telescope in the United States then used to support the search for extraterrestrial intelligence recorded a unique signal from somewhere in space.

Astronomer Jerry Ehman was so excited with the powerful 72-second-long extraterrestrial signal that he circled the reading on the computer printout, “6EQUJ5”, and wrote the comment “Wow!” on its side.

The mysterious alien signal is today widely known as the “Wow! Signal”. Several subsequent attempts to trace the Wow signal were made but it has not been detected since. What was the Wow signal? Where did it come from?

Astronomers were able to determine the signal originated from somewhere in the Sagittarius constellation, but that’s basically all we know about this mysterious space sound.

It is the promising alien technosignature, but its source remains a riddle.

Now, Alberto Caballero, an amateur astronomer may shed new light on the Wow signal.

According to the Astronomy Magazine, Caballero has succeeded in tracing the perplexing alien signal to an unknown Sun-like star in the Sagittarius, one of the largest constellations in the night sky, located in the southern hemisphere.

Could someone on an unknown alien planet there have sent us a message we are now trying to understand?

Caballero approached this problem using logic. He assumed that if the source of the Wow signal was from some other lifeforms, they should be living on an exoplanet. If this was true, it would stand to reason that such a life form might be living on a planet similar to Earth, one circling its own sun-like star.

When Caballero looked for Sun-like stars among the thousands that have been identified by Gaia in this region of the sky, his search returned just one candidate.

“The only potential Sun-like star in all the WOW! Signal region appears to be 2MASS 19281982-2640123,” says Caballero. This star sits in the constellation of Sagittarius at a distance of 1800 light-years. It is an identical twin to our Sun, with the same temperature, radius, and luminosity.

Caballero doesn’t say the Wow signal must have come from 2MASS 19281982-2640123, but it’s is possible it did. He points out we should keep in mind there are many stars in that region of the sky that are too dim to be included in the catalog. One of these could be the source.

Caballero’s discovery is fascinating, and it would be very interesting to know what exoplanet can be found in the vicinity of the Sun-like star he has located. Maybe one of these alien worlds is similar to Earth?

Until now, scientists have discovered more than 4,000 exoplanets, including some Earth-like planets that may have the potential to harbor life.  Still, we have not found solid evidence of extraterrestrial civilizations. Recently scientists suggested technosignatures can be easier to detect than biosignatures.

Knowing where to look would certainly increase our chances to find alien lifeforms, and perhaps Caballero’s discovery will encourage astronomers to focus more attention on exoplanets in the Sagittarius constellation.

Who knows, maybe someone there sent us a message long ago and they are waiting for a reply. When it comes to exploring the cosmos, anything is possible.
